Municipal Police of Juchitán Attack Compañeros of the Community Assembly of Álvaro Obregón With Bullets

To the national indigenous congress
To the national and international public opinion
To the indigenous peoples of Mexico and the world
Today, May 14, 2016, the municipal police of Juchitán shot at members of the community general assembly and the community police, leaving 5 wounded.
At about one in the afternoon, when members of the community assembly, Ezequiel Sánchez, Mariano Virgen and Adalberto López passed in front of the office of the candidate PRD-PAN for municipal president, Gloria Sánchez López, they were arrested by the municipal police of Juchitán and brutally assaulted, beating their heads, ribs, arms and other parts of their bodies. Members of the community council and community police arrived to help their compañeros, but they were met with bullets from the municipal police of Juchitán and people armed in civilian clothes. This resulted in serious injuries to the compañeros Juan Martínez Jiménez, deputy community agent; Cesar Toledo Vicente, commander of the community police; and José Andrés Jiménez, fourteen year old and member of the community assembly of Álvaro Obregón.
During the struggle against the company Mareña Renovables, the community of Álvaro Obregón decided in the general assembly of the town to change the form of electing their authorities, as the political parties had only responded to their own interests and not the interests of the community. This was done in the general assembly by electing their community mayor, council of elders, and ratifying a constitution of the community police, which emerged during the struggle against the wind farm. However, the mayor of Juchitán, Saúl Vicente Vázquez, ignored the will of the indigenous people and imposed a fraudulent person in the election—the same election that was contested by the council of elders in court. This election was unknown to the Court of Xalapa Veracruz, however the municipal president Saúl Vicente Vázquez continued to date with Jorge Alonso and 40 armed police in the community.
We denounce that for a week they have been threatening to evict the municipal agency with armed force, on part of the candidates of the different political parties, and today this threat was carried out with an attack on our compañeros.
We name the following people responsible:
Saúl Vicente Vásquez, Héctor Sánchez López, Gloria Sánchez López for this attack on the compañeros of the community assembly of Álvaro Obregón.
The Secretary of the State Government of Oaxaca for administering at their convenience this problem and not respecting the will of the people to elect their own authorities in the community assembly.
We demand punishment to those culpable for the attacks on our compañeros.
The sea, the land, the water and the wind are not for sale. They are loved and defended.
